Alocasia Cucullata

CHARACTERISTICS:

Just like most Alocasia, each retains their unique features and beauty. This one is very much have those tender succulent appearance of green vegetation appearance and distinguished heart-shaped foliage.

Alocasia Cucullata also commonly known as Buddha Palm which can have a spiritual resemblance of the deity as such when this foliage moves in a slight breeze - an appearance like a hand waving and giving a blessing.

Somehow, it's more sought after by collector because of it's uniqueness regardless whether of a spiritual or interesting features. I had shocking found that these are sold quite pricey internationally but not really recognized as rare plant here - I'm guessing as this particular one is easily found growing abandoned by the roadside uncared or cultivated and at times considered as a weed or a wild plant.

Like most Alocasia species, I find this one is quite hardy and able to handle in my shaded area well. I have also found this one does not do well in open hot direct sunny area like most elephant ear plant do. It does require some TLC as these foliage are quite sensitive over the harsh weather.

However, these fairly well with good adequate watering and well balanced filtered light, with good fertilizer and proper care in checking for pest or fungal attack - these thrive well in tight garden spaces.
