Begonia 'U501'

CHARACTERISTICS:

This particular Begonia U501 is so similar like U400 but this one is the darker colors.
U400 is very much in green - this is however more on the Brown/Burgundy counterpart. Not much information is given concerning the origin of this plant as much I'm suspecting the similarities of this one with U400 being native to Malaysia may have come from the same or surrounding regions. (South East Region)

U501 is a Rhizome Begonia which produce large oval leaves with a singular pointed edge. The leaves are silver with dark brown veins and along leaf margin.

This U501 Begonia is very brilliant with its deep dark colors unlike most kampung begonias counterparts. The foliage appear to be oval and grows generously big. When grown in shade - the tones appears diluted and spans out big whereas if receive good strong light - it has strong appearance.

This particular one often cultivated in rural region around Malaysia where the locals identify this one as "Asam Batu Kampung" This one is extremely hardy and has less care factor which grows easily as it had acclimated around the surrounding area. Often planted around shaded area where it receives good humidity.

Similar like the Black Velvet Begonia - this one also have iridescent blue features on its foliage. Only visible during evening time viewed in angle.
