Aquatic Plants in the Garden

Reminiscing my old pictures of my water pond where I keep my goldfish and above all - fastening them with all kinds of aquatic friendly plants which I can get my hands on.

This was the time where I had not started with the idea of growing begonias using the mop wick system. And so - these were very much aquatic set-up  where I just loved having life-bearer fish: platties and guppies in that water pot.

The plants I had introduced here are Water Lettuce, Blue Fern, Water Hyacinth, Salvinia minima and Umbrella Pennywort. I had planted Teacup Colocasia here but it didn't do well and so I have to replant it in a different location.

Blue Fern is actually a Selaginella species which is native in my region. I just love the iridescent blue tones that forms in the foliage.

I had tried few types here and seen they had finished their season and slowly fade away when they don't get enough sun especially during the Year End Season when it rains a lot, the days are shorter and gloomier.

I must say, I had missed seeing all these plants but managed to save them in a different location where they are much stable and doing just fine.

I believe sometimes the plants do tend to stay for a season and find a way to move on. The reality of gardening where a gardener need to know and adjust according to the move and wave of plants and their behavioral patterns.

Nothing is permanent, Nothing is Fixed - it is like fluid movement - just going with the flow..
It is the same with Plants and Gardening.

Fish in a pot

I had bought some baby carps for $1, (about 10 fish) and placed it in a pot with some aquatic plants. Wanted to do that for sometime and managed to get it done 2 weeks ago.

I had placed 4 water lettuce and the extras I had given to friends.

Garden Theme : Coloured Foliage

I wanted to compile a good collection of information on Garden Themes.
In a manner of preparing and getting a garden ready.

This Garden Theme information is collectively more towards leaves and those that grow in tropical areas. It is very easy to maintain as it requires less sunlight - appropiate for shady areas & limited sunlight areas.

There is two parts in foliage theme - coloured leaves and common green leaves.

For Coloured leaves plants:

Red:

1) Coleus (Red, yellow, Maroon)
2) Caladium (spotted red, white)
3) Star Begonia (bronze)
4) Flame Violet (bronze)
5) Hibicus varigated (red, white & green)

Yellow:

1) Mother in law (yellow & Green)
2) Bougainvillea varigated (cream, green & yellow)

Purple / Violet

1) Purple Queen
2) Zebra - inch plant.

White (and Green)

1) Ivy (white & green)
2) Devil's Ivy (white, yellow & green)
3) Dumbcane (white & green)

In a small area, its best to select opposite colour themes
eg: (violet & yellow) , ( red & green) and (blue and orange)

Violet and Yellow makes a sensible theme compared to
a) Red and Green as green is considered a common colour and
b) Orange and blue leaves are very rare to get - if the species can be identified, it may be challenging yet rewarding if anyone had put up in that arrangement for garden theme.

(I will add more information time to time in this topic when I get more ideas)

Memoria Emotionalism

Im feeling blue...
or in this case...green...
moodless...
ahh..
wished I had a drop of zeal...

And the songs of winds becons me..
rings of chime..
above, aloft, about, upright...

But now..
its windless...

And waited...
And wreaths of memory envelops me...

From the bossom of the horn,
flowed sparklets of rubies...
A glimmer of hope...
my blue is turning green...
Yet time is so slow...

And so slowly she crawled ,
when my world is ruthlessly fast,
like a fish...
from morning to night...
again in all days of my life...

Clutters of rose hugging by my shoulders
and arm full of comfort
that grace often taken for granted..

That raindrops share,
upon the petals of care,
and behold a dream in a dream
an unawaken mood of my blues...

A stone throw...
glazed robes of royal and bright..
a friend with a helping hand..
to lift up upon a moss..

And Mountains peak a pair...
around the shrouded pearls..
upon a Man and his Woman..
standing side by side....

Extended a welcome...
a brace of outburst..
outpouring upfront...
entwined two into one..

From the North to the South,
To the East and the West,
From the Top to the bottom
and his sides and hers...

As there was seen against all odds,
entwined with barbs..
yet grace prevails..
raindows and dews behold..

There was three,
Love, Joy and Peace...
By the shore, maidens washed her hair,
and her mother stand guard her daughters...
by the valley lay thick inside the woods..
where hidden tigers found sleeping peacefully...
And then awaken these beast,
with piercing eyes..
of flames of red,
sparking in the dense forest...

The maidens frightened,
but flee away when mother protects
but behold a charming prince appeared
with blazing armor at the edge of the woods...
Then a charming fairy appeared
her gown flow freely innocent
that grace of green and white..
and my blue turned evergreen..
The tigers was assured their sleep
The maiden married the prince
her mother and his nation rejoiced
what the fairy accomplished
upon my evergreen day...

War & Peace

.
The citizen of the Emerald City had overpowered the Moonight Oasis.
And there a great war waged between these two nation.
Both stood their ground and overpowered each other.
And there was lack of space and water...
Many became victim of this war and had perished..
.
.
Then came the Princess of the Blue Fairy,
she raised herself and brought peace..
that there is always hope in the midst of strive.

Water Lettuce - Pistia Stratiotes

O Ring of Green Roses
Florettes of floating oasis
Elegant swans of poise and serenity
between water and sky
a city of Emerald,
where fairies dwell..

This is my many stages of water lettuce.
There was a period where all my water lettuce turned yellow & died.

Sort of a kind of virus or something.
Then later, they seemed to thrive more & more.
Hard keeping them in control as not to pollute the water or overcrowded.

Notes:
Need good sun but not necessary direct sun.
Don't do well indoors.
You will know by the florette.
If its too flat, light green or turning yellow - not enough sun (or light)
The best is when dark green and rose shaped.
