Orchids Layout

This is one of the most challenging and also the most rewarding types of orchids.
I just love the continuous blooming period these orchids give me. I also have different varieties of phalaenopsis orchids here which are yet to bloom.
I'm just hoping that they break their dormancy and start blooming.

After many trials and error which many died along the way.
I found the most stable way in keeping them:
I place them in coke plastic bottles using styrofoam, pillow fibres, charcoal and broken pottery.

I had removed all the sphagnum Moss and no longer use coconut husk or chips as I find they then to rot and cause root rot and kill my orchids.

Another challenge are snails. I had to use snail bait and poison them time to time or they do heavy damage on the succulent leaves.
I used to put crushed egg shells on them and that proved to be a bad idea as tree shrews and squirrels starts digging out the orchids out of the containers and sometimes start eating the rootball as the aroma of crush eggshells attracts these rodents.

I had introduced Palm Orchids - hoping that they will bloom someday.

Vertical Garden: Orchids - Part 2

This is a view facing the pond, I just love the cascading effects of flowers and leaves..
(Did I repeat myself too much)

Vertical Garden: Orchids - Part 1

This is a common view of orchid blooms in my garden.
Basically the flower spikes will last for few months with continuous new flowers trailing in few days time.
I still never get bored with this lovely arrangement as these flowers always brighten my day.

Vertical Garden - Latest View

This is the current view of the Vertical Wall. The hot & dry season had begun during this time. Normally happens during Chinese New Year season. The good thing about this season is it induce mass blooming period for orchids. I'm really looking forward for it.

The other thing about bright sun is that it induce the red pigmentation for neogelias (or else it would turn green) and where I'm staying - sunshine is considered limited.

Here, I'm showcasing the flower spike of the doritaenopsis orchid (a cross between phaleanopsis and doritis orchid) These flower spikes will last almost for 6 months and another one comes out during September period.

The only thing I need to watch out for is the weight of the flower spike where they had snap off before by their sheer weight and the curious rodents which nibble and bite the poor flower spike.

And so, growing a dumbcane somehow deter them from coming around this place to a certain extent.
They are toxic but not extremely poisonous. The broad shaped leaves do give some shade when it gets too hot.

Another orchid specimen - Blue Martin never cease to bloom in my garden. Truly a marvel to see their continuous blooms.

A Gardener's Point of View

I was giving away cuttings and extra plants away as I had open invitation to a FB group.
From the many gardeners that came - this new friend was so mesmerized with my garden and took pictures of my garden.

This is her version of what she saw which was truly beautiful.
Even measured herself, her hand over my begonias.

This is one of the best pictures I have seen.
A view from the neighbour's point of view...
