Garden Update - Shaded Plants

These are my long standing collection of plants that lasted with me for years.
Of course not counting begonias and episcias which are super fussy and may die on me at anytime.

Apart from these, here are the collection of Marantaceae species, a ginger family that does so well in my garden. Also Schismatoglottis calyptrata which proved an excellent foliage plant to grow in these conditions.

As you can see the array of plants that manage so well in this set-up.
Mostly begonias and foliage plants to give that leaf texture and colors.

I would consider these as work in progress, I believe I'm slowly getting the hang of it.
Focusing on what works best and letting go the plants that struggles and unable to cope in this conditions seemed to be the best decision I had made so far in my experience here.

I had placed my focus point on placing all my begonias in this spot.
This really helps me put them on stage so to say and so other plants can take precedence it their growth factor.

I'm planning to introduce Anthurium species which may prove promising in comparison with begonias and episcias. See how it goes.

Also Dumbcane species and Sygoniums seemed do so well together in this set-up.
Again as I mentioned. most of it is more on trial basis - a work in progress - observing and working on the best interest on what works best in these condition.

Vertical Garden Update - April 2020

After the rainy wet season, the dry and hot season triggered a lot of set back on these plants especially the sensitive ones. Some of the orchids and episcias were unable to co-pe the stress and started to fall out.

As I mentioned in my earlier post concerning the predicament, I started to rearrange them on my best possible options.

As you notice, the morning sun shine bright and strong - almost like blasting heat rays on them.
I had lost few of the plants during this season. I guess it is all part and parcel of gardening.

I took the opportunity to propagate and span out more agloanema's to give that lavish strong red tones which I find fabulous and hardy for this set-up.

I also reset my Spanish Moss together giving that neat curtain cascading look.

I also enjoy the bougainvillea which constantly gives out the pink blooms
Almost like a sakura petal falling formation feeling when they gracefully adorn my garden.

Truly a remarkable feeling when caring and cultivating them almost for 10 years now.
Thank you so much for keeping up and following up with me.

Vertical Garden Update - Dec 2019

This is one of the best garden set-up which I really loved compared to so many others but pity it didn't last long as some of the plants had finished it's season and thus I had to revert to a different plants and reset them accordingly.

Nevertheless, the beauty is profound.
Here, the Staghorn fern had put out many cascading shoots, during this season where it rains more often and the humidity is high -these plants had thrived well.

The begonias did so well, especially the martin mystery.
I had become very ambitious and started to prune and propagate them in all of the available pots along that stretch but unfortunately non had survived during that wet season.

Another setback was the dormancy of orchids which still proved to be challenging as they often started to rot or dried off. And so, I had pushed them back into smaller containers and revert other bromeliads in those spaces.

Also episcias seemed to prove challenging as well especially the ants started farming on them bringing scale insects on them and these plants started to succumb and rot away.
Seeing to this challenge - I had lost considerable amount of species together with rodent problems which came together with this that did not help either.

The stress was too unbearable and the whole episcia species just disintegrated.

On the bright side - I decided to devote my focus and energy on colored strong plants and hence I believe Bromeliads would be a good substitute for this challenge.

These bromeliads are just gorgeous.

They layered so well in that formation and the aligned beauty of the lime-light green just suited well in the color-theme of my vertical garden. However, this set-up only lasted for few months as the rosette started to arch upward and some of them started to rot being overcrowded and lacking growth space.

Eventually I had reset them and these extra's exchanged for a different varieties with other gardening friends. It was indeed an exhilarating experience receive many different species and cultivars through the exchange.

Also, I had added another improvement where I had fastened the fake grass against the wall to give that lavish green finish which somehow brings out the foliage colors better from that background.

Especially for Agloanema's the red coloration just exclusively stands out.

August 2019 Updates

I thought it would be a quick clean-up and a fast tidying up works only to drag for few weeks and the delay enormously tiring. My mood was fast eroding and I wished I didn't disturb the garden.

Slowly but surely.. After resetting one pot and another, I managed to clear most of them and bring out the optimal viewing pleasure and their better span of growth and well being.

A few new additions replacing some dead ones. Hopefully they make it for the next season.
I realised that its not the number of plants in the garden rather the quality and the health of the plants and the ability for them to thrive in their best primed space.

Do let me know what you think about these new updates.

Little Beauty in My Garden

Sometimes, the small little things matter.
The small thank you.. The small please... or may I help you?
The little smile, the little wave good bye..
Yes even a overly used good morning wishes send by Watsapp..
Those little things matter..

The little collection like this beauty..
Over the years ..
Makes all the difference..
Different shapes and colours..adding beauty to this world.
Indeed.. its small but it matters..

It matters a lot to me:
When someone is so blessed and they share their heartfelt thank you.

It matters when,
kindness is shown without expecting any reward yet a heartfelt gratitude shown.

It matters when,
plants given and taken
exchange spanning from one gardener to another
crossing all border and aligning all major differences...

It matters for beauty sake..
It matters because of heart sake..
It matters because of plant sake...

Whether if its a leaf or a flower.. It can bring all the joy to the world
Even toward just one person..

Share what you think?
What matters to you?

What little beauty that can make a difference to you that makes your day?
