My Update on Mop-wick experiment.
Here in this set-up are :
Begonia Chivalry, Begonia Tiger Paws, Begonia Black Knight, Begonia Fireworks,Begonia Five N Dime, Begonia Fire Flush, Begonia Silver Limbo, Begonia Jolly Silver & Begonia 'Lalomie'.
Others which are hardy and growing well as potted plants:
Begonia - Speculata, Begonia - Floccifera, Begonia Candy Stripe, Begonia Iron Cross, Cane Begonia, Begonia 'Silver King', Begonia Art Hodes.
Here I used the wandering Jew plant as a "cushion plant to absorb over watering issue as it stabilizes the water in the medium. More like a regulator.
Also few other shade loving plants to give more body and colors in this set-up I would say some of these begonias are fussy and may not able to handle stress well if there are changes in the system.
Recently I had a rodent infestation that had badly damaged most of my begonias. It had caused great damage to other plants as well and some of it had died out of stress.
I had found that the Mop-wick system is very successful are sun exposed areas whereas the shaded areas did very poorly. These begonias slowly succumb to dormancy and some rotten away. I would suggest to place them where they get minimum sunlight at least for few hours either morning or evening sun.
