Sabah: Sunday Market - Part 1

It was Sunday morning.
One of the special occasion that takes place here.
The Sunday Market in Gaya Street.
We had breakfast here and
had the window shopping in this unique place.
Personally, there is nothing much to shout about.

It is very hot and humid,
you can drink all you can and still feel that heat.

(and its very uncomfortable,
as you sweat and the sweat dries up in an instant
and you feel that sticky oily feeling)

I have manage to capture what
they actually sell in this special market.
(only open on Sundays from morning till noon)
Most of the pictures here are basically plants.
You can literally find someone selling plant
material at every 3 - 4 intervals.

I had just captured the ones that look unique and interesting to me.
OK - Let the picture do the talking now.

Additional Notes:

Do click for the next post for the PART 2
- it had followed up below instead of the top.
(sorry, my mistake)

.
Orchids sold in bunches
.

.

These are moss rose - not sure why they are sold like these.

.
Bromeliad in flower

This is a loofa

Lime and some herbal vine (medicinal)

Hi James! Very colorful market! I know very few plants among those in the pictures. I love the Agave (if it's Agave), cacti and all big leaf tropical plants. Orchids, of course are beautiful in any part of the world. I also like fruit shown, although I don't know their names. Thank you!

The market place is my favourite 'hangout' whenever I travel. That's where we can watch the local people's culture and norms. Wow, I can spend the whole day here.

Wow, there are so many plants in the market. If I was there, I will be in big trouble. Orchids in bunch? I guess it is cheap that way! Where is this place? why do they have Chinese labels everywhere?

Tatyana - I have updated the names again, hope it helps to identify some of the plants.

Belle - Do check out part 2 - and if possible, check my other blog where I had put all the rest of the pictures (but they are not anyway garden or plant related)

Ami - I find the plants are more expensive compared to the mainland (Peninsular) This is in Sabah (North Borneo). I guess the seller wrote for the benefit of the chinese people who might also do their marketing here.

Hi James, did you buy any? I love those moss roses sold in bundles like that. I'll probably buy some that I don't have. But if in Sabah, then, perhaps not. They may survive the journey. Also, the prices on the tags are high. Nonetheless, the varieties are good. Nice market to see plants :-D

That is surely an entertaining and educational market. Those loofa are cool. Colored hedgehogs...stranger!

Stephanie - I didn't buy any. Firstly - they seemed to be expensive and the air flight services prohibits taking any life plants on board. I had an experience where I had throw away a nice pine tree I had found in my last holiday in Langkawi.

Rosey - yes, cool & strange - you should check out the complete collection of all the pictures of the market in my other blog.
Do check it out - its in the Part 2, link.

Even internal flight? gosh...

Wow! That's some lovely collection you have here, James! Looks like you had your camera's battery fully charged, huh! ;-)
Thanks for sharing!
