Sabah - Foot of the Mountain

Recently we (my wife & I) took a break from our daily heavy schedule. We planned to go for a short holiday to Sabah. Sabah is still Malaysia but the part across the sea in the Borneo region.
It took us 2 and half hours just to get there by flight.

I always wanted to have the touch of a mountain (even a foot will do). Anyway, cut the long story short, these are some of the pictures taken with all the flora experiences relating my holiday here.

.
Me - have a little taste of the mountain flower (hibiscus)
.

.
Surprise to find an angel trumpet growing here (a poisonous plant)
.

.
Some iris plants growing here & there.
.

.
This is a different location, its near the foot of the mountain, Kota Kinabalu Mount Entrance.
I spotted a buttercup like flower plant (below)
.

.
A friend of mine took a pic of me, while I was taking the buttercup flower pic.
(talk about irony)
.
.
Some lovely flowers around the foot of the mount area.
Bamboo Orchid, Medinilla plant, Coleus & Morning Glory
.

.
Had a chance with a close encounter with a squirrel.
.

.
There was a hotel nearby (didn't notice the name)
Somehow they had a lovely lobby with a beautiful balcony adorn with fushias.

That Angel's Trumpet is amazing! So big!

What a nice holiday you have. I haven't been to Sabah ;-( I always hear that it's so nice there. Do you like their seafood? Heard it's good and cheap.

Glad to see you happily taking a break :-D

Great tour! I may never see this part of the world, so it's much appreciated.
(Rather amazed about the squirrel encounter, by the way, so tame. They're not my favorite critters ;~D

It is so nice that you have such a beautiful place to unwind. You look having a very relaxing time there! We gardeners just can not live without plants, right? Even when you are on vacation, you notice all those little or big flowers that others might not notice, and you always want to take pictures of them!!! LOL I am the same way, and I will be on my vacation in China soon, so I know I will take lots of pictures!

I love that fushia plant! I bought one early this year, it bloomed beautifull for a while for me. But it is just not the right plant for South florida weather. I melted quickly when the weather heat up, no matter how I try to save it. Well, at least I enjoyed a couple of month beauty of it :)

James I'm so glad you were able to spend some time away and it looks like a very picturesque place especially with those dramatic mountains in the background. The iris you have photographed look amazing - I've never seen a red coloured one before.

What a beautiful place, James. Your pictures have captured the beauty so well....I would love to visit there someday.

I recognized the Blue Morning Glory, which I have grown before and the fuschia are just lovely.

Hi James,
Thanks for sharing the awesome photos of your trip. It's no wonder you look very relaxed in them. It's interesting to me how a few of those flowers grow here, such as morning glories, fushias, and angel's trumpet, but most don't. Those mountains are beautiful, too.

Rosey - I had come across fushia sold in my place but they don't last very long, Here I find them thriving and healthy.

Stephanie - I thought thats how an angel trumpet looks like - didn't know that it was big until all of you mentioned it here.
Hold on - more pictures coming abt. the Sabah trip.

Aaron - Yes, they are very lovely.
I had a 4 day trip - very short vacation, the first & the last day is very much taken on the journey.

Thanks Alice, I will surely drop by to check on your blog & garden.

Ami - you are so right - I guess most gardeners think alike, look forward to see your vacation to China. Hope you find all the nice flora & fauna.

Rosie - after you mentioned it, I realised that I too have not come across the red ones.
(actually these flowers where taken by my wife - I was busy nibbling flowers elsewhere)

Floridagirl - Amazing isn't it? A native from your place is growing somewhere remote as these mountainside.

Noelle - Its really breathtaking actually, the air is so refreshing, clears the lungs and you can actually breathe deeper. The morning glory seemed to invade the whole forest, carpeting upon all the trees.

Sue - I'm surprised that I look very relaxed in the pictures - actually, its quite exhausting travelling around catching up with everything in short period of time.

Thanks everyone for your lovely comments.

Hey handsome, looks like you enjoyed yourself tremendously...that's great! Reminds me much of Cameron Highlands, especially the Fuchsia blooms and Genting Highlands with its similar mountain views!
Thanks for sharing your travel with us!
