Episcia Collection - Monet

At first, I thought it was heavily induced with strong fertilizer that it had forced itself to throw off too many stolons and most likely going to overwhelm itself and die.

I took generously all the stolons and planted them everywhere but also realized that they are somehow not so hardy compared to other green companions.

Another unique feature is that they are very industrious in spreading out stolons even in small compact growth zones. Their leaves are rounder and small with a silver lining in the mid-rib.

But they are also very strongly susceptible to rot if care is not given properly.
This one is not heat tolerant compared to Faded Jade and Emerald.

Too much sun can burn on the leaves and so this one proves to be a shade lover.

UPDATED DECEMBER 2019

It has been like a year cultivating this particular episcia and I wanted to write some updates about my experience on this one. I had found that the green colored foliage types somehow seemed to be more hardy and durable compared to other colored types.

This one is resilient and able to handle stress well.
However, after about 6 months or so, they require pruning and re-potting as the plant can become so leggy and messy. If failed to do so, the plant slowly succumb to withering and slow death - the plant sort-off terminate just below the root ball and that is the end of the plant if not checked or inspected.

Their care & needs are similar to begonias - high humidity, shade loving plant and proper feeding regime to ensure stability and well balanced plant.

Below are the pictures about the episcia in my garden in this one year duration:

Here is the link where I had put together a list of all the Episcias that I had come across. A database of all the different types & their characteristics.

James, I discovered your Garden Chronicles blog is refreshing. Why? The pictures of the plants in your garden and your chronicles jogged my memory of the gardens my late mother used to keep. I am not a gardener but my late mother was. Only I could not recall the names of the plants she planted. I am talking about plants that were popular during 1970's to 1999 but hardly seen now. Your blog gives me ideas how the gardens of where I live can be (by our apartment committee ) enhanced. I live in Selangor.
