INTRODUCTION:
I have wrote a comprehensive write up on this particular Cane Begonia in my earlier post. Do check it out for more details on Plant Care. However in this particular post - I want to share my experience concerning this overall journey on what had taken place over the years.
As you can see - the plant growth and the coloration and the leaf structure, you can somehow gauge the plant growth and progress on the measure of what happens over the years.
I must say that it is indeed quite challenging to keep them growing in long term as these do have short life span in my garden.
Short like 3 - 4 months in life-span duration where you may need to cut and propagate them otherwise they do succumb to old-age and rot which may infect the whole stem with rot bacteria and somehow nothing can be saved from that cutting.
CHARACTERISTICS:
Similar looking with a common Begonia Maculata Wightii features especially the circular dot on leaf surface, burgundy colored back - this particular hybrid has a very long white-tailed stretched features.
Also another thing that I realized that the leaves can easily damaged and may be permanently scarred and so do take great care not to accidentally fold or crack the leaves while transporting or handling them. Another factor is to give great care not to get the tail too wet as it would easily get damaged. There is a significant white tailed spot at the end tip of this foliage where it is very much slender and longer. The other factor of the back of the foliage appearance where the veins are appearing red lining at the green background unlike most maculata species where it does have a dark burgundy background. This one however does not.
Another characteristics that I had noticed is their stem seems to have a cascading effect of which it does not have a strong support upright standing structure - hence I noticed unlike Cane Begonias -this particular one is not as such where it does require support like a stake or a wooden stick for support - otherwise the whole thing collapse under its own weight.
Do check out on the other main post concerning this particular Cane Begonia in my post on how I have manage to cultivate and grow this over the years.
