INTRODUCTION:
Unlike other types of Colocasia which are normally cultivated as edible food crop plant but this one is grown solely for ornamental purpose. Black Magic has a total black coloration on the leaf - these are required to be planted at open sunny areas as they may turn green in shaded areas.
PLANT CARE:
Light: Bright direct Sun Area (they can survive in shade area but will loose the black coloration)
They needed grown on direct sun with a swampy condition - loves wet feet areas.
Watering - They need to placed inside a water-body most likely inside a water container. The leaves will have burned sides if lacking water.
Feeding: General Plant Feeding Care
Pest: Spider mites at underside of leaves.
Propagation: By Tuber Division.
When the tuber grows big, cut into several pieces and let it totally dry out for few days and plant it in a rich potting medium and observe for new growth. Once the plant-let sprout out 2-3 new leaves, transfer into a separate pot and let it allow to grow more freely with root space.
Also this plant do give out new plant sprouting from it side which can be easily removed and replanted separately. This one has a strong runners growing around the plant - it's own self propagation method. These runners may trail at top surface and appear to come out of the water container which often appear to be invasive.
PLANT CHARACTERISTICS:
Foliage: Waterproof - watercolor painting like dark plum coloration.
Stem: Dark Burgundy colored stem.
Aquatic.
These green appearance take place where it is lacking good sunny bright areas. The midrib however retains all the dark coloration due to this condition.
