Begonia Torch / Begonia 'Castaway' / Begonia Angel Wing / Red Torch Angel Wing Begonia

CHARACTERISTICS:

Cane Begonia 'Torch' is also known as Begonia 'Castaway'  and notably this particular one do not have any spots, speckles or visible dots on the foliage surface. The uniqueness of this Torch Begonia is that this one have a thick emerald (dark burgundy) foliage with red lacquered underside.

It does have beautiful red clustered flowers but rarely blooms if the condition is not favorable, often requires a good bright light for it to induce blooming.

There is also a pink colored flowers variety which is known as "Torch Pink" but I had not come across them. I find that they tend to go dormant and fall apart after a while and thus may require to constant pruning and propagating to keep the plant from totally disappearing.

Begonia 'Castaway' has been identified with the Begonia Rubra species however their appearance does not have much similarities as Rubra does not have the burgundy underside nor these particular one is robust when it comes to inflorescence.

However do take note that this particular Cane Begonia do have a wrinkled tight nodes appearance - sort of like a bonsai like short nodes very much aged like appearance and the leaves may appear to be reflected and shiny according to their growing conditions where their name can be mis-identified to "Castaway'

One thing for sure, in comparison to this both names - this is actually one of the same plant hence the customer must do proper research in not getting confused purchasing the same plant with different names.
