At first, I was not confident with one when I received from a friend when the leaves had all fallen and left with dormant rhizome with a some roots attached.
After some care, the plant eventually spring back to life and was more robust than any of my other Rex. I took the risk by removing the plant from the mop-wick and considered that as a propagation station and replanted it into a soil medium - sadly, the plant went into shock and succumb to a slow death.
I realized not every begonia can survive in that ideal condition, however I'm closer to finding the secrets of what keeps them longer.
These are what sold in the nursery, the begonia has the slight pink sheen just like most of the begonias. I'm extremely suspicious whether a pink dye was sprayed on them. The red/pink hue appears so temporary that the new sprouted leaves never seemed to inherit these tones.
Perhaps I'm mistaken, until then - only time will tell.
