After seeing so many orchids, I now see faces on them. Guess it must be the focal indigestion.
Regardless, the strange thing about passion is that it comes back over and over again wanting for more.
This time its these Ground Orchids (Spathoglottis Plicata). I have been captivated by these beauties of which two of these kinds are still growing without their bloom in my garden.
My fear of over feeding them may kill them in the expenses of wanting to see their glorious bloom. As for now, I have to be contented with enjoying them visiting them during my lunch break in the Orchid Garden.
If you note, you can see that their leaves are very much look like a palm leaves. They are known as "Okid Pinang" which means Palm Orchid. They are native here & I guess many would have found them along Express Highways where they bloom & grow freely.
These are the many varieties of Ground Orchids planted along the covered sidewalk area. All of them are in partial shade & does so well in their continuous blooms. I'm so jealous of these blooms - still wondering when I'm going get their secret in getting them bloom in my garden.
Until then, I'm seeing their faces etched at these flowers.

"You're not gettin me bloomin in your place gardener..."

I do think about flower faces but not of these beauties because I don't have them! What a range! Very beautiful! My favourite are the yellows and the yellow/pink combos.

I've wanted to try orchids for years, but I'm a bit scared I would kill them, and they are terribly expensive here.

ReplyDeleteWhat a lot of pretty colored orchids! I'd love to walk down your garden sidewalk! I like the ones with pink on them the best, I think. I've never grown orchids, but my son and daughter have had some indoor ones.

ReplyDeleteYour orchid photos are beautiful. I bought 2 Phalaenopsis orchids. They do not need to be re-potted yet. I placed them in saucers of water, but he pots are resting on a pile of small pebbles so that their roots do not get wet. I heard that this helps the area around them to stay humid. Being in the desert, I need all the help I can get.
I saw them in many colours in the nurseries and have problem to determine which colour look the best. Every of the colour has its own character and beauty. I love these orchids! Yes, the flower does look like a face like you said he he... Have another great weekend!
ReplyDeleteThese are lovely hybrids of pliacata - which although more beautiful, are seasonal in their bloom. Here in Singapore I think they bloom twice a year durring the hottest months. The true pliacata species are purple and actually very weedy and free flowering. I go around removing them from my patch since they can overtake what I want to grow.
ReplyDeleteOrchids are thought of as so very exotic, and yet these gorgeous blooms are native to your region. Perhaps their reputation for being exotic is the same as any flower grown outside its homeland.

ReplyDeleteSue - would like to suggest that if you love them, do try the cheapest and the easiest one to manage. Those that I got in my garden where either rescued (collected from dumps) or bought for very cheap price.

Alice - That is really funny, making the faces back at them. I won't mind doing that if they blooming constantly, no problem doing that even if the neighbour's are watching.
