I've planted the Cane Begonias before but gave up when I find them too demanding...requires regular trimming to avoid legginess and stems need support to prevent from flopping, plus sensitive to overwatering.Jacquelinehttp://www.jaycjayc.com/noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6901937196017931930.post-43171138840550758722011-02-10T11:44:49.311+08:002011-02-10T11:44:49.311+08:00Hi, James. I'm trying to figure out the light that suits them best. And you're right about leaf cuttings; I get about one to root for every dozen I try.

-- PennyTerra Mirabilishttps://www.blogger.com/profile/05889673556489343913noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6901937196017931930.post-56952851125987533932011-02-09T13:47:28.095+08:002011-02-09T13:47:28.095+08:00Just dropping by again to inform you that I have e...Just dropping by again to inform you that I have extend you an award. Maybe you have high humidity there which they like. I've seen an orange flowered begonia during my last plant exhibit visit. Are those the floral tuber type?

Stephanie - the first greendot is my best selection. If you come that across - don't hestitate to get it, they are really fabulous.
The 7th red-dot is not something I would recommend - it look sickly all the time and difficult to propagate as the success rate is very slim.
My curf-leaved begonia dissappeared due to my negligence -they are hardy too & my wax begonia had dried up maturing without any new offsprings. I did manage to collect all those fine-dust seeds though.James Davidhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/01423981835876393119noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6901937196017931930.post-33094083166022231392011-02-08T16:38:20.062+08:002011-02-08T16:38:20.062+08:00James, I agree totally on your findings! That one in the 7th photo (red leave with dots), I bought a similar one (rooted cutting) before but it died on me. But that 'looking glass' is easy right? Some gardeners/homes planted them out in the open. You have a quite a collection.
